Lifehouse's biggest achievement remains the historic performance of Hanging by a Moment, which became the year-end number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001 without ever topping the weekly chart, a feat only three other songs had accomplished at the time. The band has sold over eight million albums worldwide and earned two Billboard Music Awards. Their four Adult Top 40 number ones, You and Me (16 weeks at #1), First Time (11 weeks), Whatever It Takes (8 weeks), and Hanging by a Moment, place them among the most successful acts on that chart. AwardsLifehouse has won eight major awards, including two Billboard Music Awards and six ASCAP/BMI songwriting honors. Their biggest win came in 2001 when Hanging by a Moment was named Hot 100 Single of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards, a rare feat for a song that never hit number one on the weekly chart. The band also won the Top Hot 100 Single award at the 2002 Billboard Music Awards for the same song.
