About This Song
Future and Drake had already logged a handful of joint tracks before Life Is Good, but none of them hit quite like this one. Released on January 10, 2020, the song arrived with little warning and immediately took over playlists and radio. It later landed as the third single from Future's eighth studio album, High Off Life, which dropped that April. The pairing makes sense: two of the biggest names in rap trading verses over a woozy, guitar-laced trap beat produced by D. Hill and OZ. The tone is celebratory but weary, the kind of flexing that comes with a side of exhaustion.
Commercially, the track was a monster. It debuted and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first song in history to spend its first eight weeks stuck at that position, held off the top by Roddy Ricch's The Box. For Future, it marked his highest-charting song as a lead artist at the time, and his highest overall until he and Drake teamed up again for Way 2 Sexy and Wait 4 U, both of which debuted at number one. By March 2021, the song had moved 9 million units in the US, and the RIAA certified it diamond that November for surpassing 10 million units. Not bad for a track that almost feels like a casual hangout between two friends.
The music video, directed by Director X, adds another layer. It finds Future and Drake doing everyday chores and hanging out with their real-life exes, a playful twist on the song's title. That visual, combined with the song's relaxed energy, helped Life Is Good become one of the defining rap hits of early 2020.
