Isaac Liev Schreiber arrived in San Francisco on October 4, 1967, before moving to New York to pursue a life in the arts. He built a formidable reputation across stage and screen as a writer, producer, director, and performer. His career spans decades of work that ranges from independent dramas to major studio blockbusters. Audiences first spotted him in mid-90s projects like Mixed Nuts, Party Girl, and The Daytrippers. Those early appearances led to a run of high-profile thrillers including Ransom and the first three entries in the Scream franchise between 1996 and 2000. Critics took notice when he played a troubled boxer in The Hurricane and a brooding Prince Hamlet in the 2000 adaptation. His filmography includes collaborations with Wes Anderson on Isle of Dogs, The French Dispatch, and Asteroid City, alongside significant turns in The Manchurian Candidate and Spotlight. Schreiber brought his intense presence to Broadway long before his Hollywood fame took off. He made his debut in In the Summer House during 1992. The role of Richard Roma in David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross earned him a Tony Award in 2005. Subsequent nominations followed for productions of Talk Radio, A View from the Bridge, and a revival of Doubt in 2024. On television, he found his most defining character as the titular protagonist in the Showtime series Ray Donovan. He played this complex fixer for eight seasons from 2013 to 2020, reprising the part in a 2022 television movie. That performance garnered three Primetime Emmy nominations and four Golden Globe nods. Other notable screen credits include Orson Welles in RKO 281 and Otto Frank in A Small Light. Beyond acting, he directed Everything Is Illuminated in 2005.
