Liam McNeeley

Liam Thomas McNeeley is an American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA. A consensus five-star recruit out of high school, he played one season at UConn before being selected in the second round of the 2025 NBA draft. Known for his smooth three-point shooting and high basketball IQ, he projects as a modern stretch forward who can space the floor and make winning plays. As of 2026, he is developing his game on a two-way contract, splitting time between the Hornets and their G League affiliate.[edit]

McNeeley grew up in Richardson, Texas, in a basketball family. His father, Matt, is a respected basketball trainer who has worked with NBA stars like Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum. His mother, Michelle, played college volleyball at UT Arlington. He attended John Paul II High School in Plano, where he led the team to a state semifinal appearance. For his junior and senior years, he transferred to Montverde Academy in Florida, a national prep powerhouse. At Montverde, he played alongside fellow top recruits and helped the team to a 32-1 record and a national championship in 2024. He was named a McDonald's All-American and participated in the Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoop Summit. Rated the No. 12 overall player in the 2024 class by 247Sports, he committed to UConn in November 2023, choosing the defending champions over Indiana, Kansas, and Texas.[edit]

McNeeley made his college debut for UConn in November 2024, scoring 18 points against Sacred Heart. He started throughout his freshman season, averaging 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while shooting 39.1% from three. His best game came against DePaul on February 11, 2025, when he dropped 26 points. He earned Big East Freshman of the Week honors three times and was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team. After UConn's second-round NCAA Tournament exit, McNeeley declared for the 2025 NBA draft. The Charlotte Hornets selected him 38th overall, and he signed a two-way contract. He made his NBA debut on October 22, 2025, scoring 7 points in 12 minutes. As of early 2026, he is averaging 4.5 points and 2.1 rebounds in limited minutes, while also putting up big numbers in the G League, including a season-high 28 points for the Greensboro Swarm in February 2026.[edit]

McNeeley is known for his smooth, high-arcing three-point shot and high basketball IQ. Media and coaches describe him as a hard-working, fundamentally sound player who needs time to develop physically. He is often called a glue guy who makes winning plays. On social media, he maintains a professional and humble presence, posting basketball highlights and family photos. He avoids controversy and lets his game speak for itself.[edit]

Liam McNeeley stands as a promising rookie forward for the Charlotte Hornets, navigating the early stages of an NBA career that began with his selection in the 2025 draft. Despite a growing social media presence and standout performances during the 2026 Summer League, he currently holds no placement within the iFANN Global Top 1,000 or any Top-100 scope list. The iFANN Global Fame Engine has evaluated his profile, yet the data confirms he does not currently occupy a ranked position among the world's most famous individuals. This absence of a numerical ranking reflects his status as a developing athlete rather than a cultural icon with established global reach. His fanbase lacks a formal name, operating instead through standard social media engagement on platforms like Instagram where he maintains approximately 61,000 followers. There are no documented fan-funded projects, birthday billboards, or organized rituals dedicated to him, as his career is too recent to have generated the viral mythology or cult following seen with established legends. While reports from mid-2026 noted a diminished role after a teammate returned to the lineup, describing him as a "forgotten man," these narratives remain grounded in athletic adaptation rather than legendary folklore. No crowd-shutting incidents or cultural myths surround his name at this time. His story is defined by rapid collegiate success and immediate professional milestones, including a Second-Team All-Summer League honor, but these achievements have not yet translated into a distinct fandom identity or widespread fame beyond the basketball community.[edit]

Before dedicating himself fully to basketball in high school, McNeeley was a standout baseball player, pitching and playing shortstop with notable skill. He wears jersey number 30 to honor his father, Matt, who wore the same number during his own college career. An avid fan of the anime series Naruto, McNeeley brings a unique pop-culture perspective to his game. His father's influence extends beyond family ties; Matt trained NBA superstars Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum during offseasons, giving Liam early exposure to elite-level training methods. On the court, his most verified moments include being named the 2025 BIG EAST Freshman of Year while at UConn and recording a standout 28-point performance in July 2026 during the NBA Summer League, where he shot 7-of-9 from three-point range. These games made waves among former Huskies and secured him Second-Team All-Summer League honors. Another notable regular-season outing saw him contribute 20 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in just 26 minutes of play. While some narratives suggest he faced a reduced role heading into his second year after a veteran teammate returned, his trajectory remains one of steady development and potential.[edit]

McNeeley's father, Matt, is a basketball trainer who has worked with several NBA players. His mother, Michelle, played college volleyball at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has a brother, Mason, and a sister, Macey. The family remains close-knit, with Liam often posting about them on social media.[edit]

McNeeley played alongside Donovan Clingan and Stephon Castle at UConn, both of whom entered the NBA in 2024 and 2025 respectively. His father, Matt, has trained Kevin Durant and Jayson Tatum. UConn head coach Dan Hurley coached him during his freshman season.[edit]

As of early 2026, Liam McNeeley has no publicly confirmed romantic relationships. He keeps his personal life private, with his social media focused entirely on basketball and family. He is currently single.[edit]

Per iFANN's editorial analysis, Liam McNeeley's net worth is estimated at $1 Million as of 2026. This figure stems primarily from his two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets, which provides a flat salary of $578,577 for the 2025-26 season. Additional income sources include a small signing bonus and minor endorsement deals, though no major partnerships have been publicly reported. He currently holds no known real estate holdings or business ventures. The total valuation is expected to increase as he continues to develop within the NBA system and potentially secures a standard contract.[edit]

McNeeley has not won any major professional awards. In high school, he was a McDonald's All-American and won a national championship with Montverde Academy. In college, he was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team and earned Big East Freshman of the Week honors three times.[edit]
