Levitating

Dua Lipa's "Levitating" is a nu-disco and electro-disco track from her second studio album Future Nostalgia, released on 27 March 2020 via Warner Records. The song was written by Lipa alongside Clarence Coffee Jr., Sarah Hudson, and Stephen "Koz" Kozmeniuk, with production by Koz and Stuart Price. Built on a sample from a Roland VP-330 synthesizer, the track blends 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s influences into a retro-futuristic pop sound. Lyrically, the song uses cosmic imagery to describe the euphoria of falling in love. Lipa has described it as "a joyful ode to the often-quick process of falling in love" and cited Daft Punk as an inspiration, noting that her rap-style bridge was "almost like my British version of Blondie's rapping."

Two major remixes were officially released. The Blessed Madonna remix, featuring Madonna and Missy Elliott, was released on 13 August 2020 as the lead single from the remix album Club Future Nostalgia, shifting into EDM, electro house, and future bass. A second remix with DaBaby was released on 2 October 2020 as the fifth single from the bonus edition of Future Nostalgia, with DaBaby contributing a pop-rap verse while the original production remained intact. Additional remixes include a version with Megan Thee Stallion, and regional versions featuring Sukriti Kakar and Prakriti Kakar (Hindi), and Mohamed Ramadan (Arabic).

"Levitating" peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. It was named Billboard's number 1 song of 2021 on their year-end Hot 100 chart, a rare feat for a single that never reached number one, previously achieved only by Lifehouse's "Hanging by a Moment" in 2001. The song set records for the most weeks in the Hot 100 top 10 by a female artist (41 weeks) and the longest-charting non-holiday song by a woman (77 weeks). It spent 66 consecutive weeks on the Hot 100 as of February 2022. By 2025, Billboard had crowned it the biggest female-led song of the 21st century and the ninth biggest overall. [edit]
