Let's Go Karaoke!

Satomi Oka, a third-year junior high student and the lead vocalist of his school choir, faces a crisis right before the final competition: his voice is changing. Puberty threatens to ruin everything he has worked for. Then a yakuza lieutenant named Kyouji Narita approaches him after a performance. Kyouji's boss holds an annual karaoke contest where the loser gets a painful tattoo from the boss, who is still learning. Desperate, Kyouji begs Satomi to teach him how to sing.

What follows is a series of twice-weekly singing lessons that force Satomi to shift from performer to teacher. The manga explores the pressures of adolescence, the absurdity of yakuza life clashing with school choir earnestness, and the unexpected friendship that forms between a middle schooler and a gangster. Yama Wayama balances silliness, warmth, and a hint of controversy, all drawn with a cool yet intimate neon-nightlife aesthetic.

Originally self-published as a doujinshi at COMITTIA 129 in August 2019, Kadokawa Future Publishing released it commercially in September 2020. Yen Press licensed the English edition in 2022. The story has expanded into a live-action film directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita (premiered January 2024) and an anime series by Doga Kobo (aired July–September 2025). A direct sequel, Fami-res Iko, ran in Comic Beam from November 2020 to February 2026 and is collected in two volumes. [edit]
