Leon S. Kennedy

Leon Scott Kennedy was born in 1977 to an Italian-American family. He grew up with a strong sense of justice and a desire to help others, which led him to pursue a career in law enforcement. On September 28, 1998, the 21-year-old rookie arrived in Raccoon City for his first day as a police officer, only to find the city devastated by a T-Virus outbreak. He met Claire Redfield at a gas station, and together they fled toward the Raccoon City Police Department, though they were separated by a crashed helicopter. During his night in the city, Leon encountered Ada Wong, a woman claiming to be an FBI agent, and the scientist Annette Birkin. He kills Krauser, who reveals the government's involvement in bioweapons, and successfully rescues Ashley Graham. By Resident Evil 6, Leon is providing security for the U.S. president, only to be forced to kill him after he turns into a zombie. Framed for the incident, Leon clears his name but grows increasingly disillusioned, realizing that the real enemies are the people who create bioweapons. In the animated miniseries Infinite Darkness, he discovers that the U.S. government was complicit in the Raccoon City disaster, yet chooses to hide the truth to maintain global stability, marking a fundamental moral compromise. In the later timeline of Requiem, a 49-year-old Leon suffers from Raccoon City Syndrome, a physical manifestation of his lingering T-Virus infection. He returns to the ruins of the Raccoon Police Department for a ritual cleansing and is cured by Sherry Birkin, allowing him to finally move on from his trauma and regain a sense of hope.[edit]

Critics praise his blend of heroism and humor, and his redesign in the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 was widely noted for boosting his appeal.
