    About

Le Havre Athletic Club, commonly known as Le Havre AC or HAC, is a French professional football club situated in the port city of Le Havre, Normandy. Established in 1894 as part of a larger sports club founded in 1884, it stands as one of France's oldest football organizations. The team currently competes in Ligue 1, the highest level of French football, after securing the Ligue 2 championship in the 2022–23 season. Their home matches are played at the Stade Océane, a contemporary venue inaugurated in 2012 with a seating capacity of 25,178.

The club's early history is marked by significant achievements. Le Havre AC participated in France's inaugural official championship in 1899 and emerged victorious, becoming the first club outside Paris to win the national title. They achieved this success again in 1900 and secured another championship in 1913, amassing three national titles in their formative years. Although a top-flight title has eluded them since that era, they hold a record six Ligue 2 championships. Their most notable cup success was winning the Coupe de France in 1959.

Le Havre AC is widely recognized for its productive youth academy, which has nurtured talents such as Paul Pogba and Riyad Mahrez. Other notable alumni include Ibrahim Ba, Jean-Alain Boumsong, Lassana Diarra, and Vikash Dhorasoo. Under the guidance of coach Luka Elsner, the team is known for its attacking and possession-oriented style of play.

    History

Founded in 1894, Le Havre AC holds a significant place in French football history. The club participated in and won the first official French championship in 1899, a feat repeated in 1900 and again in 1913. These early successes established the club as a major force in French football. While the club has not claimed a Ligue 1 title since its early days, it has achieved a record six Ligue 2 championships, most recently in the 2022–23 season, earning promotion back to the top flight. The club's most prestigious cup victory came in 1959 with a win in the Coupe de France.

The Stade Océane, the club's home ground since 2012, replaced the historic Stade Jules Deschaseaux. The modern stadium seats 25,178 spectators and provides a contemporary setting for the team's matches. Le Havre AC is also noted for its strong youth development program, which has been instrumental in producing several high-profile players who have gone on to successful careers both in France and internationally. The club's rivalries, particularly the 'Derby Normand' against SM Caen, are keenly contested and generate significant local interest.
