Lamar Jackson

Lamar Demeatrice Jackson Jr. is an American professional football quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He plays with a unique blend of elite passing accuracy and record-breaking rushing ability that has redefined the position since his rookie season.

As of 2026, Jackson holds the distinction of being the all-time leader in quarterback rushing yards and ranks first on the NFL's career passer rating list. His two NFL Most Valuable Player awards mark him as one of the most dominant forces in modern sports history. [edit]

Born in Pompano Beach, Florida, Lamar Jackson spent his early childhood moving frequently due to his father's military service before settling in Carol Stream, Illinois. He attended Carl Sandburg High School where he was a standout multi-sport athlete, excelling in both football and track. His athletic potential became undeniable when he led his high school team to state championships while setting numerous records.

To gain more exposure from top college programs, Jackson transferred to St. Leo Prep in Maryland during his junior year. This move proved pivotal as it placed him in a system designed to showcase dual-threat quarterbacks. He dominated the prep scene, throwing for over 3,000 yards and rushing for nearly 1,000 yards in a single season. Scouts began circling Louisville after seeing his highlight reels, leading to his commitment to play for the Cardinals.

At the University of Louisville, Jackson quickly made an impact. In his sophomore season, he won the Heisman Trophy in 2016, becoming the first player in school history to receive the award. His college career was defined by electrifying runs and a willingness to take risks that often resulted in massive gains. By the time he declared for the draft, he had already established himself as a generational talent ready for the next level. [edit]

Jackson entered the NFL in 2018 when the Baltimore Ravens selected him with the 32nd overall pick. He took over as the starting quarterback midway through his rookie season after Joe Flacco suffered a season-ending injury. Despite his youth, he led the team to the AFC North title and became the youngest quarterback to start a playoff game at age 21. His rookie performance included a record-breaking rushing effort that immediately highlighted his unique dual-threat capabilities.

The 2019 season marked a turning point in NFL history. Jackson led the league in passing touchdowns and set the single-season rushing record for a quarterback with 1,206 yards. This unprecedented performance earned him the unanimous selection as the NFL Most Valuable Player, making him the fourth Black quarterback to win the award. The following year, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to record multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

In 2023, Jackson secured his second MVP award, leading the Ravens to their first AFC Championship Game appearance since 2012. By the 2024 season, he had set career highs in passing statistics and officially became the all-time leader in quarterback rushing yards. As of the 2026 season, he continues to lead the franchise while maintaining elite efficiency and holding the record for the highest career passer rating in regular-season history. [edit]

Jackson projects an image of quiet confidence mixed with explosive energy on the field. His style is often casual yet sharp, favoring comfortable training gear during practice and clean, modern streetwear for public appearances. Media outlets frequently describe him as a leader who leads by example rather than loud words.

His social media presence is active but focused on training clips, family moments, and brand promotions. He avoids controversy and keeps his voice positive, which has endeared him to fans across different demographics. Analysts consistently praise his work ethic and his ability to elevate his teammates' performance. [edit]
