LA Galaxy

The LA Galaxy are the most decorated club in Major League Soccer history, with a trophy case that includes a record six MLS Cups. Based in the Greater Los Angeles area, they were one of the league's ten charter members when MLS kicked off in 1996. The club has long been a magnet for global stars, from David Beckham to Zlatan Ibrahimović, and its rivalry with crosstown newcomers LAFC has added a new chapter to Southern California soccer.

Owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group, the Galaxy played their early home matches at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena before moving to Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson in 2003. The team's trophy haul also includes four Supporters' Shields, two U.S. Open Cups, and a CONCACAF Champions' Cup. In 2024, they captured their sixth MLS Cup and set a playoff record with 18 goals scored.

The Galaxy's 2007 signing of David Beckham from Real Madrid was a watershed moment for American soccer, drawing international attention and paving the way for other high-profile arrivals. Landon Donovan, the club's all-time leading scorer, and players like Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard, and Marco Reus have all worn the white and blue. The Galaxy's first home was the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, where they played from 1996 to 2002. In 2003 they moved to the Home Depot Center (now Dignity Health Sports Park) in Carson, a purpose-built soccer venue. That same year they won their first MLS Cup, beating the Chicago Fire 2-1 in the final. Sigi Schmid, who had coached the team since 1999, was at the helm.

The Beckham era began in 2007, and the Galaxy's profile exploded globally. But it took until 2011 for the team to lift another MLS Cup, a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo. Landon Donovan scored the winner. The following year they repeated, beating Houston again, this time 3-1, with goals from Omar Gonzalez, Donovan, and Robbie Keane. Bruce Arena, who had taken over in 2008, guided those title runs.

After a few lean years, the Galaxy returned to the top in 2024. Under Greg Vanney they stormed through the playoffs, scoring 18 goals in four matches, a new league record. The final was a 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls at Dignity Health Sports Park. That sixth star put them alone atop the all-time list, ahead of D.C. United. [edit]
