Kimberly J. Brown

Kimberly Jean Brown was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland, on November 16, 1984. She launched her acting career as a child and quickly became a familiar face on American television. Her first major break came at age eight when she joined the cast of Guiding Light. She played Marah Lewis from 1993 until 1998 and returned for a brief stint in 2006. This long-running role on the CBS soap opera earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series. The recognition proved she could hold her own alongside veteran performers. Brown transitioned to film with a standout performance in the 1999 indie hit Tumbleweeds. Playing Ava Walker opposite Janet McTeer, she captured the heart of a lonely girl navigating life after her mother's departure. Critics praised her natural delivery, and she took home the Independent Spirit Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. That same year, Disney Channel tapped her to star in Halloweentown. She played Marnie Piper, a teenage witch who discovers her magical heritage. The movie sparked a franchise that ran from 1998 to 2004. Brown appeared in all four films, often sharing the screen with Debbie Reynolds. These movies remain some of the most watched original Disney Channel productions ever. Her versatility shone through in Stephen King's 2002 miniseries Rose Red. As Annie Wheaton, a mute psychic girl haunted by a haunted house, she delivered a chilling performance without speaking many lines. Brown continued working steadily across genres. She appeared in the comedy Bringing Down the House with Steve Martin, the horror flick Big Bad Wolf, and the ensemble comedy Friendship!.
