Kim In Seong

Kim In-seong is a South Korean singer, dancer, and musical actor best known as the main vocalist and eldest member of the nine-member boy group SF9 under FNC Entertainment. Born in Nowon-gu, Seoul, he brings a unique blend of vocal stability and academic discipline to his performances, often earning him the nickname of the "smartest" member within the industry.

As of 2026, In Seong stands at the forefront of his career following a successful transition from idol pop to solo artistry. He recently released his first official solo album Crossfade: in January, showcasing a mature vocal range that extends beyond the group's signature sound. His presence on stage remains defined by precise choreography and powerful live singing, cementing his reputation as one of the most reliable vocalists in the fourth generation of K-pop. [edit]

Kim In-seong grew up in Nowon-gu, Seoul, as an only child. He attended Gyeonggi High School, where he began to cultivate the performance skills that would later define his career. Unlike many trainees who spend years in preparation before debuting, In Seong took a more direct path after high school graduation when he auditioned for FNC Entertainment.

His breakthrough moment came in 2016 through the Mnet survival show D.O.B (Date of Birth). This program followed ten male trainees competing for spots in a new group formed by FNC. In Seong distinguished himself with his strong vocal foundation and dance precision during the competition. The show aired throughout the year, culminating in the selection of the final lineup of nine members. He successfully secured a spot in the group, which was officially named SF9, and they debuted shortly after the show concluded. [edit]

In Seong debuted with SF9 on October 5, 2016, with the mini-album Feeling Sensation. The group quickly gained traction for their powerful concept and synchronized choreography. Throughout 2017 and 2018, SF9 released several successful albums including Breaking Sensation, establishing In Seong as the main vocalist responsible for the group's high notes and emotional ballads.

Beyond music, In Seong expanded his portfolio into acting and musical theater. He made his web drama debut in SF9: Summer Breeze in 2018 and appeared in SF9: Tear Drop the following year. His versatility led to opportunities in variety shows where he showcased his quick wit, reinforcing his image as an intelligent and capable entertainer.

In March 2022, In Seong enlisted for mandatory military service as an active duty soldier, pausing his activities with the group. He was discharged in early 2023 and immediately rejoined SF9 for comeback promotions. The period following his return saw continued success for the group, but In Seong also focused heavily on individual projects. On January 14, 2026, he released his debut solo album Crossfade:, featuring tracks like "Mute" and "Trying To Love." This release marked a significant milestone, allowing him to explore personal artistic expression separate from the group dynamic. As of late 2026, he continues to perform at major festivals and promote his solo work alongside his duties with SF9. [edit]

In Seong projects an image of reliability and maturity, fitting his role as the eldest member of SF9. Standing at 184 cm, he possesses a tall, commanding stage presence that complements his vocal power. Media outlets frequently describe him as handsome and composed, noting his ability to remain calm under pressure during live broadcasts. His fashion sense tends toward stylish yet understated looks that emphasize his height and build. Colleagues and fans alike view him as a leader who balances seriousness with a hidden playful side, often referred to as having a "maknae-like" charm despite being the oldest. [edit]

iFANN has evaluated Kim In Seong's global influence, but he does not currently hold a placement in the published Global Top 1,000 rankings.
