Kevin Bieksa

Kevin Francesco Bieksa hails from Grimsby, Ontario, where his journey began on local rinks before he stepped into the spotlight as a professional ice hockey player. Born on June 16, 1981, the defenceman spent three seasons with the Burlington Cougars in the Ontario Junior Hockey League before earning a scholarship to Bowling Green State University. His time there was marked by academic success; he earned a bachelor's degree in finance and received All-Academic honorable mentions in both 2003 and 2004 while playing for the Falcons of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Vancouver Canucks selected him 151st overall in the 2001 NHL entry draft, but he first honed his skills with their minor league affiliate, the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. He quickly proved his worth by making the AHL All-Rookie Team during his sole full season there. By the 2005–06 campaign, Bieksa had secured a regular spot with the Canucks, eventually becoming a cornerstone of their defense known for his physical style and two-way play. He served as team captain for years, leading the franchise through multiple playoff runs before finishing his playing days with the Anaheim Ducks. Beyond the ice, Bieksa represented Canada at the 2014 World Championship, where he captained the squad and earned top player honors, and returned for the 2018 Spengler Cup. Now retired from active competition, Bieksa has transitioned seamlessly into broadcasting as a co-host on Hockey Night in Canada. His deep understanding of the game and charismatic presence have made him a familiar voice for fans across the country.
