Keisha Buchanan

Keisha Kerreece Fayeanne Buchanan is a British singer and songwriter best known as the founding member of the iconic girl group Sugababes. Born in Kingsbury, London, she rose to global stardom alongside Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy, helping to define the sound of British pop in the early 2000s. Her distinctive vocals and stage presence were central to the group's success, which included six number-one singles and two number-one albums.

As of 2026, Buchanan remains an active figure in the entertainment industry. She recently cemented her status as a solo entertainer by winning the seventh series of The Masked Singer. Her career has been marked by resilience, navigating high-profile departures, legal battles over the group's name, and a triumphant return to the spotlight with the original lineup. [edit]

Keisha was born in Kingsbury, a district in northwest London, where she spent her formative years. Her childhood was not without significant hardship; she later revealed that she was kidnapped as a teenager while walking home from school. This traumatic event left a lasting impact on her life, yet it did not deter her passion for music. Before entering the professional spotlight, Keisha honed her singing abilities through local choirs and community performances in London.

Her entry into the music industry began at a very young age. Around 13 or 14 years old, she auditioned for what would become the Sugababes. The group formed in 1998 when she joined forces with Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy. This trio quickly signed with London Records and began their journey toward becoming one of the most successful British pop acts of the 21st century. The early days were defined by intense rehearsals and the development of a unique vocal blend that set them apart from other girl groups of the era. [edit]

The original lineup of Sugababes released their debut single "Overload" in 2000, which reached the UK Top 10. Their breakthrough came with the album Angels with Dirty Faces in 2002, featuring the hit "Freak Like Me." By 2003, the group achieved massive success with the album Three, producing number-one singles like "Round Round" and "Hole in the Head." Following Siobhán Donaghy's departure in 2005, Heidi Range joined the group, and they continued to dominate the charts with hits like "Red Dress" from the album Taller in More Ways.

In September 2009, Keisha was controversially fired from the group and replaced by Jade Ewen. This decision sparked a media frenzy and fan backlash. Undeterred, Keisha reunited with former bandmates Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy in 2012 under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS) to perform their classic hits. After years of legal negotiations, the original trio secured the rights to the "Sugababes" name in 2019, allowing them to officially reunite under the original moniker.

Beyond music, Keisha expanded her career into acting with cameo appearances in films like About Time in 2013. In 2026, she won the seventh series of The Masked Singer, marking a major comeback in television and re-establishing her public profile as a versatile entertainer. She continues to perform with the reunited Sugababes and participates in speaking engagements, discussing her experiences in the music industry. [edit]
