Kees Smit

Kees Smit is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar and has represented the Netherlands at youth levels. Born in Heiloo, he has risen through AZ's academy to become a first-team fixture, wearing the No. 10 shirt and earning recognition as one of the Eredivisie's most promising creative talents.

At 20, Smit has already drawn attention from some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Newcastle United, with reported transfer fees around $70 million. His performances in the 2025-26 season earned him the UEFA Conference League Revelation of the Season award, and he continues to be a key figure for AZ as they compete in domestic and European competitions. [edit]

Kees Henricus Petrus Smit was born on 20 January 2006 in Heiloo, a small town in North Holland known for its polder landscapes and a youth football scene that has produced more than a few Eredivisie players. He came through AZ's academy, one of the most respected talent factories in the Netherlands, signing his first professional contract as a teenager. Smit represented the Netherlands at youth levels from under-15 upward, developing a reputation as a technically gifted midfielder with strong passing and close control. His progress through the ranks was steady, and by the 2022-23 season he was ready for senior football. [edit]

Smit made his senior AZ debut in the 2022-23 season and became a regular in the matchday squad the following campaign. By 2025-26 he was a first-team fixture wearing the No. 10 shirt, contributing 2 goals and 4 assists in the sampled season data. In May 2026 he was named UEFA Conference League Revelation of the Season for 2025/26, and in April 2026 Arda Turan publicly called him "special" after he stood out in AZ's defeat to Shakhtar. He was left out of a Netherlands squad in September 2026 and responded with a clear public message to national coach Xavi. On transfers, he effectively ruled out a move to Ajax, saying "AZ is currently on par" with the Amsterdam club. As of late 2026 he is linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Newcastle United and Brighton, with figures around $70 million circulating. He remains an AZ player through the 2026-27 season per the latest profiles. [edit]

Smit's public image is that of a low-key, technically gifted creative midfielder. He is known for his passing range, dribbling in tight spaces, and willingness to take responsibility in possession. His social media presence is modest, with a focus on football content and adidas partnerships. Media portray him as a rising star with a mature head on young shoulders, and his performances have drawn comparisons to other Dutch midfielders who came through the same system. [edit]

iFANN has not yet collected fame data for Kees Smit, so no ranking is available. He is not on the September 2026 iFAMOUS Rankings flagship list. His fanbase has no formal name, but his following is growing, particularly among AZ supporters and Dutch football fans who appreciate his technical style. YouTube scouting compilations titled "The Generational Talent" and "The Perfect Talent" are the main fan-generated content, and his Instagram following of around 52K reflects a modest but engaged audience. Kees Smit is right-footed, not left-footed as some early profiles suggested. He fronts adidas Football content, including the new F50 boot, and is represented by Forza Sports Group. A story fans still retell: after being left out of the Netherlands squad in September 2026, Smit issued a clear public message to national coach Xavi, showing his determination to fight for his place. Off the pitch, he keeps a low profile, and no widely retold folklore or viral incidents are documented. [edit]
