Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

Two student council officers at Shuchiin Academy, Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, are hopelessly in love. But each refuses to confess first, believing that doing so would mean losing a power struggle. So they wage an elaborate war of psychological manipulation, deploying schemes, traps, and mind games to force the other to admit their feelings. What begins as a cold war of pride slowly thaws into something far more genuine and vulnerable.

Aka Akasaka launched the series as a one-shot in Miracle Jump in May 2015, then began regular serialization in Weekly Young Jump on March 19, 2016. The final chapter ran on November 2, 2022. The 28 collected volumes were published in Japan by Young Jump Comics. Viz Media released the first English volume on February 6, 2018, with subsequent volumes following in paperback and digital formats. The manga has been translated into multiple languages by publishers including Tong Li Publishing in Taiwan and Panini Comics in several regions.

By December 2022, worldwide sales had surpassed 22 million copies. In 2020, the series won the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award in the General category, one of Japan's most prestigious manga honors. It also ranked number one in the 2020 Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics list. Three anime seasons from A-1 Pictures aired between 2019 and 2022, followed by a theatrical film, The First Kiss That Never Ends, in December 2022. A live-action film directed by Hayato Kawai starring Sho Hirano and Kanna Hashimoto opened in Japanese theaters on September 6, 2019.[edit]
