About
JYP Entertainment started small in 1996 as Tae-Hong Planning Corporation, founded by singer-songwriter Park Jin-young, better known as J.Y. Park. The company rebranded to JYP in 2001 and quickly rose through the ranks after launching g.o.d in 1999 and Rain in 2002. Today it stands as one of Korea's Big 3 entertainment firms, alongside SM and YG, though HYBE has since overtaken them all in market cap.
What sets JYP apart is its emphasis on artist development and in-house production. Founder J.Y. Park still serves as Chief Creative Officer, personally overseeing music for many groups. The company runs a rigorous trainee system with annual global auditions across 20 countries, and its roster includes TWICE, Stray Kids, ITZY, NMIXX, and Xdinary Heroes. Stray Kids' 2023 album 5-STAR sold 5.1 million copies, the highest in JYP history.
JYP went public on KOSDAQ in 2011 under ticker 035900. For 2023, it reported revenue of ₩567.8 billion and operating profit of ₩175.2 billion. The company has expanded globally with offices in Japan (2008), China (2014), and the USA (2020), and a partnership with Republic Records for US distribution. Jimmy Jeong took over as CEO in 2023, allowing J.Y. Park to focus on creative direction.
