Jyn Erso

Jyn Erso was born a few years before the Galactic Empire's formation. She is the daughter of Galen Erso, a key scientist in the Death Star project, and Lyra Erso. Her early childhood was spent in hiding as her father was pursued by the Empire. During this time, Jyn was separated from her parents and spent her formative years with Saw Gerrera and his Partisans, a militant group within the burgeoning Rebel Alliance. This period left her with a history of operating alone and a degree of cynicism about the larger cause.

Her life was defined by evasion and survival. The Empire eventually located her father, forcing him to work on the Death Star. Jyn, having been sent away for her own safety, experienced further periods of isolation and hardship, adopting various aliases to evade Imperial notice. Initially a fugitive with a criminal record, Jyn is extracted from an Imperial labor camp by Rebel intelligence officer Cassian Andor. She is tasked with helping the Alliance locate and retrieve vital intelligence regarding the Death Star, information provided by her estranged father, Galen Erso.

Her journey becomes one of reluctant heroism. Initially skeptical of the Rebellion, she gradually embraces the mission as she learns the full extent of the Empire's destructive capabilities and her father's role in it. She discovers that Galen intentionally sabotaged the Death Star by including a critical design flaw. Jyn's transformation from a solitary survivor to a key figure in the mission culminates in her leading the Rogue One team to Scarif. There, they successfully transmit the Death Star's plans to the Rebel fleet, an act that directly leads to the superweapon's destruction at the Battle of Yavin.
