Four young men from Basildon, Essex walked into Blackwing Studios in London with secondhand synthesizers and a demo tape that would change their trajectory. Released on September 7, 1981, "Just Can't Get Enough" became the band's first top-ten hit in the UK, peaking at number three. The track also climbed to number 24 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the American Dance Club Songs chart, proving its appeal across the Atlantic.

Vince Clarke wrote the song entirely, crafting a burst of bright energy built on a pulsing bassline and a simple melody. This was his final contribution to the group before he departed in December 1981 to form Yazoo with Alison Moyet. The cheerful lyrics about romantic obsession stood in stark contrast to the darker themes Martin Gore would later explore as the band evolved.

Produced by Daniel Miller, founder of Mute Records, the track utilized analog equipment to capture a clean sound characteristic of early 1980s electronic music. Critics have long praised it as a cornerstone of the synth-pop genre, noting how the limitations of early synthesizers forced a creativity that defined their sound.
