About
Jurina Matsui (松井 珠理奈, Matsui Jurina; born March 8, 1997) is a Japanese TV personality, singer, actress, and YouTuber. She is a former member of Japanese idol girl group SKE48 and former concurrent member of AKB48 (in 2012–2015). She is recognized as SKE48's absolute "ace", having placed in the top 10 in many of AKB48's annual general elections and winning the 2018 election. Matsui debuted with SKE48 in 2008 and was soon appointed as the center position for AKB48's single "Ōgoe Diamond", making her the first sister group member to participate and serve as the choreography center in the group's main single lineup. Matsui graduated from SKE48 in 2021 with her last single "Koiochi Flag". As a solo artist, Matsui has starred in many supporting roles and had her first leading role in horror TV drama Death Cash (2016). She released her self-written first solo album Privacy on October 5, 2019. After her graduation, Matsui is active as a TV personality and occasionally involves in sports events, especially pro-wrestling. In April 2022, she entered an indefinite hiatus due to "poor physical condition".
Fame & Fandom
Jurina Matsui commands a global footprint defined by decades of high-visibility stardom rather than current viral dominance. Her cultural resonance spans from the peak of the idol era to her recent transition into mainstream adult life, yet she currently holds no placement in iFANN's published Global Top 1,000 or any scope-specific list. The iFANN Global Fame Engine has evaluated her profile and determined that while her historical impact remains significant, she does not currently register within the active ranking tiers for this period. This absence of a numeric rank reflects a shift in public attention as she moves beyond the daily news cycle of active entertainment. Her audience remains vast but lacks a formalized identity; research confirms no official fandom name exists for her supporters, who operate as a decentralized network of long-time followers rather than an organized collective with a specific title. Unlike modern stars driven by algorithmic campaigns, her legacy rests on documented milestones: the record-breaking debut at age eleven, the historic "Double Matsui" synchronization, and the emotional gravity of her 2026 marriage announcement. These events anchor her reputation without requiring a branded fanbase to sustain them.
Interesting Facts and Legends
Jurina Matsui debuted at age eleven, becoming the youngest member ever to center a main AKB48 single lineup when she performed "Ōgoe Diamond." She served as the first sister group member to hold the choreography center position in the main group's singles. As SKE48's absolute ace, she placed in the top ten of numerous annual general elections before winning the 2018 election outright. Her career concluded with the 2021 single "Koiochi Flag" following a graduation ceremony that drew thousands of fans. A viral moment from her 2008 debut featured a photographer capturing her intense stare into the lens while wearing a school uniform, earning her the title of the world's youngest idol at the time. Fans still retell the story of the "Double Matsui" era, where she shared center duties with Matsui Rena, creating a synchronized performance dynamic that defined the peak of SKE48's popularity. In July 2018, she announced a temporary hiatus due to anxiety and depression, a rare move that humanized the pressure of the idol industry and rallied fans in unprecedented support. Her 2020 solo music video "Who Are You?" went viral for its self-confrontation concept, marking her artistic shift from child star to mature artist. In January 2026, it was reported that she married an idol six years her senior, effectively closing her twelve-year idol chapter.
