Jumanji: Open World

The fifth and final installment of the modern Jumanji saga, Jumanji: Open World, flips the franchise's formula. Instead of teenagers being pulled into a video game, the game itself breaks into reality, unleashing jungles, animals, and traps on a suburban town. Directed by Jake Kasdan, the film stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan reprising their avatar roles, with Awkwafina joining as new player Ming. The real-world cast, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Madison Iseman, and Ser'Darius Blain, return as the teens who must once again save the day. Shot primarily in Los Angeles on a reported $150 million budget, production wrapped in March 2026. The film is set for a Christmas 2026 release through Sony Pictures Releasing.

The story picks up after Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), when the magical console reactivates on its own, pushing Jumanji's world outward. Ostriches stampede through streets, temples rise from lawns, and snow falls unnaturally as the town becomes ground zero. The characters realize they must enter the game one last time to stop the destruction. The story begins some time after the events of Jumanji: The Next Level. Spencer Gilpin, Martha Kaply, Bethany, and Anthony 'Fridge' Johnson have settled back into their normal lives, believing their adventures in Jumanji are behind them. But the magical video game console, which had remained dormant, suddenly activates on its own. This time, instead of pulling the players into the game, it pushes the game's world outward into reality.

The quiet suburban town becomes ground zero for an invasion. Ostriches stampede through neighborhood streets, ancient temples rise from suburban lawns, and the jungle rapidly overtakes the area as an unnatural winter sets in, blanketing everything in snow. The four teenagers, along with returning characters Alex Vreeke and Nora, find themselves caught in a crisis that threatens to consume the entire world. As the chaos escalates, they realize they must return to the game one last time to stop the destruction.

The avatars, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Franklin 'Mouse' Finbar, Professor Sheldon 'Shelly' Oberon, and Ruby Roundhouse, are pulled back into action, joined by a new player named Ming. The stakes are higher than ever: the fate of the real world hangs in the balance, not just the game world. The setting expands beyond the small town to include a snow-covered city center, deserts, temples, and jungle environments.
