Judge Doom

Judge Doom's origins are murky, but the 1989 graphic novel Who Framed Roger Rabbit: The Resurrection of Judge Doom reveals he was once a toon named The Weasel, banished from Toontown for his crimes. Faking his death, he re-emerged disguised as a human judge, using makeup and prosthetics to hide his true nature. His hatred for toons stems from his exile, and he plotted revenge by seizing control of Toontown and erasing it entirely.[edit]

Doom is cold, calculating, and utterly ruthless. He speaks in a high-pitched, nasal voice that unnerves everyone around him. He takes sadistic pleasure in tormenting toons, especially Roger Rabbit, and shows no mercy even to his own henchmen, the Toon Patrol weasels. His calm demeanor masks a manic rage that erupts when his plans are threatened. He is highly intelligent and manipulative, orchestrating a complex frame-up of Roger Rabbit to gain power.[edit]

In Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Judge Doom presides over the trial of Roger Rabbit for the murder of Marvin Acme. He manipulates private detective Eddie Valiant into investigating the case, all while secretly planning to demolish Toontown and build a freeway. His true identity is exposed when Eddie accidentally removes his disguise, revealing him as a toon. In the climax, Doom is flattened by a steamroller but briefly survives, only to be dissolved by his own Dip. The graphic novel sequel resurrects him via a mad scientist, continuing his vendetta.[edit]

Judge Doom is widely regarded as one of the greatest film villains of all time. Wizard magazine ranked him among the top 100 villains. His reveal as a toon is frequently cited as one of the scariest moments in a non-horror film, especially for children. Christopher Lloyd's performance is praised for its menacing theatricality and ability to switch from calm to manic rage.
