Johnny Cage

Jonathan Carlton, better known as Johnny Cage, started out as a B-movie action star whose career had hit the skids. Trained in martial arts since childhood, he traveled the globe to master different fighting styles and once saved a Hollywood producer from muggers, which helped launch his fame. He joined the first Shaolin Tournament in 1992 after an invitation from Shang Tsung, mainly to prove his skills were genuine and not just movie tricks.

Over time his bloodline connection to an ancient order of Mediterranean warriors surfaced. This ancestry gave him access to green energy powers that appear when he faces real danger. What began as a publicity stunt turned into a lifelong commitment to protecting Earthrealm from otherworldly threats. [edit]

Johnny Cage brings nonstop cocky swagger and movie-star charm to every situation. He fires off one-liners in the middle of deadly battles, obsesses over his public image, and loves showing off with flashy moves. His arrogance often rubs allies the wrong way at first.

In the original timeline Johnny enters the tournament for fame but quickly becomes a true hero. He helps defeat threats like Shao Kahn and Shinnok before dying in the lead-up to Armageddon. The 2011 reboot changes his path. Raiden's time meddling keeps him alive longer, lets him discover his green energy powers, and sees him marry Sonya Blade. They have a daughter named Cassie before their marriage ends in divorce.

By Mortal Kombat X he leads a Special Forces team and trains the next generation of fighters known as the Kombat Kids. In the 2023 timeline reset he appears as a wealthy, even more narcissistic star who must learn what true heroism means.
