Sir John Walker's achievements on the track are nothing short of legendary. He broke the 3:50 mile barrier, a feat that was once thought impossible, and backed it up with Olympic gold. His world record stood for nearly a decade, and he remains one of only a handful of men to have run the mile in under 3:50. His knighthood in 1987 was a fitting tribute to his contribution to sport and his country.
