Valvano's legacy is defined by a single championship and a speech that transcended sports. The 1983 NCAA title remains one of the greatest upsets in history, and his ESPY address has been viewed millions of times. He was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012, 19 years after his death. The V Foundation, which he announced in his final public appearance, has raised over $310 million for cancer research as of {{year}}, a figure that grows with each Jimmy V Classic. He received the Presidential Citizens Medal posthumously in 2001.
