Furman's record is measured in rulings rather than trophies. He was confirmed to one of the nation's most prominent trial courts in 2012 after a Senate process that followed a nomination from President Obama. In 2026 he issued a decision holding that the Justice Department unlawfully fired a federal prosecutor and ordered her reinstated, a ruling covered by more than eighteen outlets. He has also become a leading judicial voice on artificial intelligence in the courtroom, arguing that judges must not hand their reasoning to machines. Membership in the American Law Institute and a faculty role with the Practising Law Institute round out a career built on the bench and the classroom.
