Jean Grey

Jean Grey was born to John and Elaine Grey, and her mutant powers first manifested at age ten when her best friend Annie Richardson died in a car accident. Jean telepathically linked with Annie, experiencing her death and nearly dying herself. Professor Charles Xavier discovered her and temporarily blocked her telepathic abilities to stabilize her, later inviting her to his School for Gifted Youngsters. Under Xavier's tutelage, Jean mastered telekinesis and eventually regained her telepathy, becoming one of the original five X-Men as Marvel Girl.

Her first major transformation occurred during a space mission when she heroically piloted a damaged shuttle through lethal radiation to save her teammates. In the seminal Dark Phoenix Saga, Mastermind manipulated her psyche, corrupting her into the Dark Phoenix, who destroyed a star system and killed billions. The real Jean, recovering in a psychic cocoon, emerged and chose to commit suicide to prevent further destruction. This sacrifice became one of comics' most iconic moments.

She was later resurrected and married Cyclops, forming a family with their daughter Rachel (from an alternate future) and Cable (Cyclops's son with Jean's clone Madelyne Pryor). After a second death, a time-displaced younger Jean was brought to the present. In the Krakoan era, Jean was resurrected again, briefly parted ways with the Phoenix Force, and served on the Quiet Council. In 2024, revelations redefined her as the human manifestation and mother of the Phoenix Force. She now travels space but returns to Earth to fight with the X-Men.[edit]
