Dornan's acting has earned him two Irish Film and Television Awards, a Broadcasting Press Guild Award, and an RTS Northern Ireland Award, all for his chilling performance in The Fall. He was nominated for a BAFTA Television Award for Best Actor in 2014 and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for Belfast in 2022. The Irish Times ranked him 43rd on its list of Ireland's greatest film actors in 2020. He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bedfordshire in 2016 for his contributions to the arts.
