James Rhodes

James Rupert Rhodes was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and became a highly skilled combat pilot. In the MCU, he met Tony Stark while serving as a liaison to Stark Industries, and the two became close friends. In the comics, Rhodes was originally a helicopter pilot who helped Tony Stark escape captivity during the Vietnam War (later updated to a more modern conflict). He later became Stark's personal pilot and security chief.

When Tony Stark's alcoholism left him unable to function as Iron Man, Rhodes donned the armor to protect Stark's legacy.
