James Brown's achievements are remarkable by any measure. He was one of the first ten inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, a testament to his foundational role in rock and soul. Rolling Stone ranked him seventh on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. He holds the record for the most singles on the Billboard Hot 100 that never reached No. 1, with 99 entries, and the most singles charted on the Hot 100 overall, with 114. In Joel Whitburn's analysis of Billboard R&B charts from 1942 to 2010, Brown is ranked No. 1 among the Top 500 Artists. His live album Live at the Apollo is considered one of the greatest live albums ever, and his song "Funky Drummer" is one of the most sampled drum breaks in hip-hop history.
