Jailer 2

Jailer 2 is an Indian Tamil-language action film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures. The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, the film reunites Rajinikanth as the retired police officer Muthuvel Pandian, who is pulled back into a world of violence after a new criminal syndicate threatens his family. The ensemble cast includes Hrithik Roshan in his first collaboration with Rajinikanth, along with Mohanlal, Ramya Krishnan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Shiva Rajkumar. With a budget estimated at ₹250 crore, it ranks among the most expensive Tamil films ever made.

The narrative picks up after the events of the first film, exploring the emotional fallout from the loss of Muthuvel's son. The story follows his reluctant return to action as he assembles a team of allies to dismantle a syndicate led by a mysterious antagonist with a personal vendetta. Shot across Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Thailand, and the UAE over 120 days, the film features action choreography by the Anbariv stunt team and a score by Anirudh Ravichander. The film grossed over ₹500 crore worldwide in its first two weeks, with projections exceeding ₹800 crore. Critics praised Rajinikanth's performance and the film's emotional core, though some noted its lengthy runtime. Jailer 2 begins some time after the events of the first film. Former police officer Muthuvel Pandian, once known as Tiger, now lives a quiet, retired life. He is a broken man, consumed by grief and guilt over the death of his son in the previous film. Estranged from his family, he struggles to find purpose. His daughter-in-law Vijayalakshmi and his granddaughter are trying to rebuild their lives, but the shadow of the past looms large.

A new criminal syndicate emerges, led by a mysterious and charismatic antagonist whose reach extends into international smuggling and political corruption. This syndicate has a personal vendetta against Muthuvel, connected to the downfall of the previous gang. When his daughter-in-law and granddaughter are targeted, Muthuvel is reluctantly drawn back into action. He assembles a team of allies: his loyal friend Mathew, a retired police officer with his own troubled past; Narasimha, an eccentric vigilante with a code of honor; and Shwetha Arjun, a young hacker who provides technical support. A mysterious figure played by Hrithik Roshan appears, his allegiance unclear for much of the story. Two bumbling informants, played by Santhanam and Suraj Venjaramoodu, provide comic relief.

The plot unfolds across multiple locations, from the gritty streets of Chennai to international settings. Muthuvel and his team begin dismantling the syndicate piece by piece, facing obstacles including a rogue police officer played by Vijay Sethupathi, who secretly works for the syndicate. The narrative is structured around a series of high-octane action sequences, each showcasing a different member of the ensemble. A key subplot involves a retired police commissioner played by Mithun Chakraborty, who provides crucial information. The film builds toward a climactic confrontation at a heavily fortified prison, nodding to the original film's title.
