ITV Sport

ITV Sport is the sports production arm of ITV, the UK's largest commercial free-to-air broadcaster. The brand first appeared in the 1980s as an on-screen label for sports coverage produced by ITV's regional franchises like London Weekend Television and Granada. It wasn't a separate company, just a collective identity. After the merger of Carlton Communications and Granada plc in 2004, all regional sports departments were folded into a single centralized division based in London, creating the modern ITV Sport.

The division holds rights to a mix of crown jewel events protected by Ofcom's listed events rules, such as the Grand National, the FA Cup Final, and the Rugby World Cup final. Its football portfolio includes exclusive free-to-air coverage of the England national team, the FA Cup (highlights and select live matches), and the UEFA Europa League and Europa Conference League. Rugby fans get the Six Nations Championship (shared with the BBC) and the Rugby World Cup. ITV Sport also covers the British Touring Car Championship, Formula E, live boxing, and highlights of the Tour de France and World Snooker Championship.

ITV Sport operates across ITV1, ITV4, and the ITVX streaming platform, which launched a dedicated Sports Hub in 2024. The division is led by Director of Sport Niall Sloane, appointed in 2014, who reports to ITV's Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo. While ITV Sport doesn't break out separate financials, it is a key driver of advertising revenue for ITV's Media and Entertainment division, which reported £2.4 billion in total revenue in 2023.[edit]
