The operation traces its roots to 1955 when Independent Television News (ITN) launched specifically to supply bulletins for the new channel. That partnership remains intact today, with ITN still producing every national news program aired on the network. This long-standing collaboration has earned the coverage significant recognition from major industry bodies including the Royal Television Society, Emmy Awards, and BAFTAs.

The flagship broadcast ITV News at Ten stands out as a crown jewel in this lineup, securing multiple BAFTA awards and earning RTS News Programme of the Year honors in 2011, 2015, 2021, and 2022. Between 2004 and 2008, the evening edition held the same prestigious title. In terms of reach, the brand commands the second-largest television news audience in the United Kingdom, trailing only BBC News while surpassing competitors like Sky News, Channel 4 News, and Channel 5 News. Although ITN originally branded all national programs under its own name, the network consolidated its identity over the mid-1990s.
