    About

The club traces its roots to June 15, 1990, when then-Istanbul Mayor Nurettin Sözen established it as İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor. For nearly twenty years, the team operated under municipal oversight before separating its football operations in June 2014 to form an independent professional entity with its current identity.

Based in the rapidly developing Başakşehir district, the team competes in the Süper Lig and plays its home matches at the 17,067-capacity Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium. The squad is instantly recognizable by its orange and navy blue kits, a sharp contrast to the traditional colors of Istanbul's established giants.

Başakşehir reached its zenith during the 2019–20 season when they secured their first Süper Lig title. This victory made them only the sixth club in league history to win the championship, surpassing historic rivals like Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe to claim the top spot.

    History

For two decades, the organization functioned as a municipal sports department before the football branch spun off into a standalone club in 2014. This structural change allowed for greater autonomy and investment, setting the stage for rapid competitive growth within the Turkish league system.

The 2019–20 campaign marked the turning point for the franchise. Under the guidance of Abdullah Avcı, the team finished the season atop the table without dropping points in the final stretch. This triumph ended a long drought for the district and established Başakşehir as a legitimate challenger to the city's traditional powerhouses.

European competition has become a regular fixture for the club following their domestic success. They qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stage shortly after winning the league and have since navigated multiple Europa League and Conference League campaigns. In the 2026–27 season, the team faced Inter Turku in the second qualifying round of the Conference League, resulting in a 1-1 draw that kept their European hopes alive.
