Is It Love

Tyla stepped into a new sonic territory with Is It Love, trading the heavy basslines of her Amapiano roots for crisp hi-hats and polished New Jack Swing rhythms. Released on June 18, 2026, this single served as the third promotional pull from her sophomore album A*Pop. The track opens the record as its first song, acting as a Q&A introduction to the project's themes while showcasing smooth vocal runs that define contemporary R&B.

The production by Douglas Ford strips away deep thumping beats in favor of sharper percussion textures reminiscent of the 1990s. Critics noted the emotional weight of lyrics questioning the validity of love without tears, creating a distinct contrast between the upbeat tempo and the vulnerable subject matter. This blend of heritage and modern pop sensibilities solidified Tyla's reputation as an innovator capable of crossing genre boundaries. [edit]
