Inter Milan

Football Club Internazionale Milano, commonly known as Inter Milan, is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy. Founded on March 9, 1908, the club emerged from a split within the Milan Foot-Ball and Cricket Club (now AC Milan) over a disagreement about signing foreign players. The breakaway group, led by painter Giorgio Muggiani, championed a more inclusive, internationalist policy, reflected in the club's name and its iconic black and blue (Nerazzurri) stripes. Inter is the only Italian club to have maintained an unbroken presence in the top division of Italian football, Serie A, since its debut in 1909, never having been relegated.

Since 1947, Inter has shared the San Siro stadium, officially known as Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, with AC Milan, hosting the Derby della Madonnina, one of the most widely followed rivalries in world football. The club has won 39 domestic trophies, including 21 league titles, ten Coppa Italia titles, and eight Supercoppa Italiana titles. From 2006 to 2010, Inter won five consecutive league titles, equaling the all-time record at that time. Internationally, Inter has won three European Cup/UEFA Champions League titles (1964, 1965, 2010), three UEFA Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup. The 2009–10 season was historic, as under manager Jose Mourinho, Inter completed an unprecedented Italian seasonal treble by winning the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League.

Inter boasts the highest home game attendance in Italy and the fourth-highest in Europe. Since May 2024, the club has been owned by American asset management company Oaktree Capital Management. Inter Milan was founded on March 9, 1908, by a breakaway group from the Milan Cricket and Football Club (AC Milan) who wanted a club open to foreign players. The club's first success came quickly, winning its first Italian championship in 1910. Captain and coach Virgilio Fossati, who led Inter to that title, was killed in World War I. In 1922, Inter won a play-off to maintain its top-flight status, and the club claimed its first Coppa Italia trophy in 1938, led by legendary forward Giuseppe Meazza.

The 1960s marked the golden era of Grande Inter under manager Helenio Herrera, who pioneered the catenaccio defensive system. Herrera led the club to three Serie A titles, two European Cups (1964, 1965), and two Intercontinental Cups. The 1988–89 season saw Inter capture the Serie A championship led by German stars Andreas Brehme and Lothar Matthäus, along with Argentine Ramón Díaz. The 1990s were a period of relative disappointment, with Inter finishing one position above relegation in 1993–94 while rivals Milan and Juventus dominated.

The 2000s brought resurgence under Roberto Mancini, who won three consecutive Serie A titles from 2006 to 2008. The pinnacle came in 2009–10 under Jose Mourinho, when Inter became the first Italian club to win the historic treble: Serie A, Coppa Italia, and UEFA Champions League. In 2023–24, under Simone Inzaghi, Inter secured its 20th league title. In 2025, former player Cristian Chivu was appointed head coach, replacing Inzaghi. [edit]
