Inevitable

Released on September 29, 1998, through Sony Music Colombia, "Inevitable" is a cornerstone of Shakira's breakthrough album Dónde Están los Ladrones?. The song is a rock en español ballad that finds Shakira addressing a former lover with disarming candor. She admits that life without him has become a monotonous blur, a confession that cuts deeper than any grand gesture. Shakira wrote the lyrics herself and co-composed the music with Luis Fernando Ochoa, who also produced the track.

The accompanying music video shows Shakira performing in a packed arena, surrounded by screaming fans, a visual that contrasts sharply with the song's intimate, confessional tone. Critics praised "Inevitable" for its emotional depth and lyrical vulnerability, and it earned a Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) Latin Award in 2000. On the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, the single spent twelve weeks and peaked at number three.
