Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever are a professional women's basketball team based in Indianapolis, Indiana, competing in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) as a member of the Eastern Conference. Founded in 2000 as an expansion team, the Fever have become a staple of the league, known for their passionate fan base and competitive spirit. The team is owned by Herb Simon, founder of the Simon Property Group, and plays its home games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The Fever have made the playoffs in 14 of their 25 seasons, capturing their first and only WNBA championship in 2012 by defeating the Minnesota Lynx 3-1 in the Finals. Tamika Catchings, the franchise's cornerstone, was named Finals MVP. The team also reached the Finals in 2009 and 2015, falling to the Phoenix Mercury and Lynx respectively. The Indiana Fever were established in 2000 as an expansion team, joining the WNBA for the 2000 season. The franchise played its first game on June 1, 2000, a loss to the Miami Sol. Under initial head coach Nell Fortner, the Fever struggled, posting a 9-23 record in their inaugural season. The team's first playoff appearance came in 2002, led by rookie sensation Tamika Catchings, who was drafted third overall in 2001 but missed her first season due to injury.

In 2004, Lin Dunn took over as head coach and transformed the Fever into perennial contenders. The team reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2005 and 2007 before breaking through to the WNBA Finals in 2009, where they lost to the Phoenix Mercury in five games. The pinnacle came in 2012, when the Fever defeated the Minnesota Lynx 3-1 to win the championship, with Catchings earning Finals MVP honors. After Dunn's retirement in 2014, Stephanie White led the team back to the Finals in 2015, but the Lynx prevailed in five games.

The post-Catchings era saw a decline, with the Fever missing the playoffs from 2017 to 2022. However, the drafting of Aliyah Boston first overall in 2023 and Caitlin Clark first overall in 2024 reinvigorated the franchise. Under coach Christie Sides, the Fever returned to the playoffs in 2024 and 2025.
