    About

Inazuma Eleven began as a Nintendo DS game in 2008, the brainchild of Level-5 founder Akihiro Hino. He wanted to fuse his love of football with role-playing mechanics and anime-style storytelling. The result was a hybrid: players recruit teammates, explore a school, and battle rival teams using fantastical special moves like Fire Tornado and Inazuma Break. The first game sold over 1.5 million copies in Japan alone, and the series has since moved more than 8 million units worldwide.

The franchise quickly exploded beyond games. A manga adaptation by Tenya Yabuno ran in CoroCoro Comic from 2008 to 2011, collecting ten volumes. The anime, produced by OLM, aired 127 episodes from 2008 to 2013, followed by sequel series Inazuma Eleven GO and Inazuma Eleven: Ares. Five feature films have been released. In Europe, the games were published by Nintendo and later by Level-5 International, building a particularly strong following in France, Spain, Italy, and the UK, where the anime aired on channels like TF1 and Disney XD.

Level-5 is headquartered in Fukuoka, Japan, with a Tokyo office. The company reported revenue of about ¥10.3 billion in fiscal 2019. Inazuma Eleven remains one of Level-5's three core IPs, alongside Professor Layton and Yo-kai Watch. The brand's identity centers on ordinary school kids achieving extraordinary feats, marketed through TV commercials, cross-promotions with FC Barcelona, and a tie-in with the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The upcoming game Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road, delayed to 2025, aims to revive the series for modern consoles.
