Overview
Mika Yamamori's In the Clear Moonlit Dusk is a shojo manga that began serialization in Kodansha's Dessert magazine on July 21, 2020. The story centers on Yoi Takiguchi, a high school girl whose tall stature, deep voice, and handsome features have earned her the nickname "Prince" since childhood. Resigned to being admired from afar rather than seen as a romantic prospect, Yoi's world shifts when she collides with Kohaku Ichimura, an upperclassman equally known as the school's other prince. Unlike everyone else, Kohaku immediately perceives Yoi as beautiful and expresses genuine interest, leading to an "experimental dating" arrangement that forces both to confront their feelings and identities.
Yamamori, also known for Daytime Shooting Star, brings her signature detailed character art and expressive floral motifs to the series. The manga explores themes of self-perception, androgyny, and first love, as Yoi gradually learns to embrace her unique appearance through Kohaku's admiration. A third "prince" character later appears at Yoi's part-time job, adding further romantic tension. As of January 2026, the series has been collected into ten tankōbon volumes in Japan, with Volume 10 reaching the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 chart.
An anime adaptation produced by East Fish Studio and Atelier Peuplier, directed by Yūsuke Maruyama, aired on JNN (TBS Television) from January 11 to March 29, 2026, spanning 12 episodes and licensed by Crunchyroll. A live-action film directed by Kentarō Takemura is scheduled for release in October 2026. The English print edition, published by Kodansha USA, has released up to Volume 9, with Volume 7 appearing in July 2024.
