In 2013, YG Entertainment initiated a rigorous competition through the survival program "WIN: Who Is Next," pitting two trainee teams against each other. Six trainees, B.I, Bobby, Jinhwan, Yunhyeong, Junhoe, and Donghyuk, were assembled as Team B. Despite their talent and dedication, Team B ultimately lost to Team A, who subsequently debuted as WINNER.

Undeterred by this initial setback, YG founder Yang Hyun-suk recognized Team B's potential and granted them a second opportunity in 2014 with the follow-up survival show, "Mix & Match." This program introduced a wildcard element, allowing new trainees to compete for the final spots in the group. It was through this intense competition that Jung Chan-woo, a former child actor, was selected as the seventh and final member, completing iKON's lineup.
