HYBE
South Korea"Connecting people through music and technology"
About
HYBE began life in 2005 as Big Hit Entertainment, a small Seoul label founded by songwriter-producer Bang Si-hyuk. The company nearly went under before a single group changed everything. BTS debuted in 2013, and their meteoric rise pulled Big Hit from the brink of bankruptcy into the center of the global music industry. In March 2021, the company rebranded to HYBE, a name derived from hive, signaling a shift from a traditional label to a tech-driven lifestyle platform.
Today HYBE operates through multiple divisions. Its labels include Big Hit Music, ADOR, Pledis, Source Music, and Belift Lab, housing acts like SEVENTEEN, TXT, ENHYPEN, LE SSERAFIM, and NewJeans. The 2021 acquisition of Ithaca Holdings brought Scooter Braun's roster into the fold, adding Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Demi Lovato. HYBE also owns QC Media Holdings, home to Lil Baby and City Girls. Beyond recorded music, the company runs Weverse, a fan community platform with over 10 million monthly active users, and Weverse Shop, its e-commerce arm. Other ventures include the mobile game Rhythm Hive, webtoon adaptations like 7Fates: Chakho, and AI voice synthesis projects like MIDNATT.
HYBE is publicly traded on the Korea Exchange under ticker 352820. Founder Bang Si-hyuk holds roughly 31.8% of shares, making him the largest shareholder. The company reported 2023 revenue of approximately ₩2.18 trillion (US$1.66 billion), a 22.5% increase year-over-year, with a market capitalization around ₩10 trillion (US$7.5 billion). Its headquarters sit in Yongsan District, Seoul, at the HYBE Insight building, which opened in 2021 and houses a museum, recording studios, and offices. Global outposts include HYBE America in Los Angeles, HYBE Japan in Tokyo, HYBE Latin America in Mexico City, and HYBE Europe in London.
