About This Album
Repulsion recorded Horrified for just $300 in a basement studio over three days in June 1986. This raw session produced ten tracks of blistering speed that mashed thrash metal, death metal, and hardcore punk into a chaotic whole. Blast beats thundered beneath lyrics soaked in gore, drawing heavy inspiration from horror comics and slasher films. The band initially released the work as a demo called Slaughter of the Innocent, but it failed to secure a deal before the group split in September 1986.
Tape traders kept the music alive until Bill Steer and Jeff Walker released it officially through their Necrosis Records label in July 1989. Critics now view this record as a cornerstone of grindcore and the blueprint for goregrind. Decibel magazine ranked it the top grindcore album ever in 2009, while Terrorizer placed it second among American entries.
