Hit Me Hard and Soft

Released on May 17, 2024, Hit Me Hard and Soft marks Billie Eilish's third studio album. Distributed through her own imprint Darkroom alongside Interscope Records, the project features ten tracks co-written and produced entirely by her brother Finneas O'Connell. The record spans roughly 43 minutes and 50 seconds, weaving together electro, gothic rock, and avant-pop to create a sonic landscape that shifts from whisper-quiet intimacy to distorted, explosive choruses.

The tracklist opens with "Skinny" before moving into the lead single "Lunch." Other notable songs include "Chihiro," "Birds of a Feather," "Wildflower," "The Greatest," "L'Amour de Ma Vie," "The Diner," "Blue," and the closing track "Skating." Lyrics explore desire, insecurity, self-destruction, and the complexities of love while Eilish's vocal delivery ranges from fragile to ferocious throughout the session.

Commercially, the album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. All ten songs entered the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 upon release. The record topped charts in over 20 countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. "Birds of a Feather" later peaked at number two on the Hot 100 as a standalone hit, while "Wildflower" received significant attention as a second single.

Critical reception was universally positive, with reviewers praising the inventive production and raw lyricism. The project earned seven nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year. In early 2026, "Wildflower" won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year.
