Records

Koreeda is one of the most decorated Japanese directors of his generation. His Palme d'Or win for Shoplifters made him only the fourth Japanese director to achieve that honor. He has had eight films selected for the Cannes competition, a rare consistency. His work has been nominated for an Academy Award, a BAFTA, and multiple Asian Film Awards. He received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government in 2020.

AwardsKoreeda has won some of cinema's highest honors. His film Shoplifters won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, the festival's top prize. Like Father, Like Son won the Jury Prize at Cannes. Monster won Best Screenplay at Cannes. Earlier, Maborosi won the Golden Osella for Best Cinematography at Venice.
