Higher Love

Steve Winwood released "Higher Love" in August 1986 as the lead single from his fourth solo studio album, Back in the High Life. The track blended blue-eyed soul with polished pop rock production and featured backing vocals by Chaka Khan. Written by Winwood and Will Jennings, the song reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for a single week in late August 1986.

The original music video directed by David Mallet showcased Winwood performing alongside Khan in a stylized setting. Critics have frequently praised the song's timeless quality, with songwriter Will Jennings describing it as a modern hymn. The recording remains a staple of radio play and is often cited in lists of the greatest pop songs of all time.

A posthumous version featuring Whitney Houston emerged in June 2019 through a collaboration with Norwegian DJ Kygo. This remix topped the US Dance Club Songs chart and entered the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. The official video for this release combines archival footage of Houston with new visuals and has garnered hundreds of millions of views online. [edit]
