Herbert van der Beek holds the rare distinction of being knighted in the Order of the Netherlands Lion, the highest civilian honor in the country, for his services to journalism. He is the only news presenter to receive the Zilveren Reissmicrofoon, the Ere-Zilveren Nipkowschijf, and the Beeld en Geluid Oeuvreprijs, a triple crown of Dutch media awards. His memoir Achter het Nieuws spent 12 weeks on the bestseller list.

AwardsVan der Beek won the Zilveren Reissmicrofoon in 2018 for lifetime achievement in journalism. He received the Gouden Televizier-Ring in 2010 as part of the NOS Journaal team for election coverage, and the Ere-Zilveren Nipkowschijf in 2019. In 2021, he earned a star on the RTL Walk of Fame, and in 2022, the Beeld en Geluid Oeuvreprijs.
