Overview
Kouta Hirano launched Hellsing in April 1997 within the pages of Young King OURs, a seinen magazine known for mature content. The series concluded its original run in September 2008 after spanning ten collected volumes published by Shueisha under the Young King Comics imprint. Dark Horse Comics later handled the English localization, bringing the complete story to North American audiences alongside the prequel Hellsing: The Dawn.
The narrative focuses on the Hellsing Organization, a secret branch of the British government tasked with neutralizing supernatural threats. Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing commands Alucard, a powerful vampire bound to her service through a magical contract. This arrangement allows the organization to deploy an almost invincible weapon against ghouls and rogue vampires threatening England.
Conflict escalates as Seras Victoria joins the team following her transformation into a vampire, and Alexander Anderson arrives from the Vatican's Iscariot department. The plot shifts from individual hunts to a full-scale invasion orchestrated by the Millennium Organization, a remnant Nazi group attempting to trigger a global apocalypse using necromancy and advanced technology. The story ends in London with a cataclysmic battle that obliterates the boundaries between life and death.
