Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines began life on January 30, 1929, as Inter-Island Airways, a subsidiary of the Inter-Island Steam Navigation Company. The airline took to the skies on October 6, 1929, with a Bellanca CH-300 Pacemaker offering short sightseeing flights over Oʻahu, and commenced scheduled service on November 11, 1929, using Sikorsky S-38 amphibious aircraft flying from Honolulu to Hilo with stops on Molokaʻi and Maui. It changed its name to Hawaiian Airlines in 1941. During World War II, one of its DC-3s was shot by Japanese fire during the Pearl Harbor attack, and the U.S. military later designated it the number one scheduled cargo flight. The airline introduced jet service in 1960 between Los Angeles and Honolulu, and operated the first all-female U.S. crewed flight in 1979.

Today, Hawaiian Airlines is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, which also owns Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. The carrier operates a fleet of 71 aircraft serving 31 destinations, with hubs at Honolulu (HNL) and Kahului (OGG) on Maui. It is a member of the Oneworld alliance. Its frequent-flyer program, Atmos Rewards, was named Best Airline Rewards Program by Nerdwallet and Best Innovation in Airline Loyalty by The Points Guy. The airline has been recognized as an APEX Five Star Major Airline and operates as the most fuel-efficient premium airline in the U.S. It carries approximately five million visitors annually.

Hawaiian Airlines has been recognized for having the most distinctive branding among airlines, ranking highest in the Beyond Borders study. Its brand identity is deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture, emphasizing the concept of aloha in its service approach and marketing. The logo has evolved over time, including a live bird logo added in 1952 and later peach and purple color schemes. Following the acquisition by Alaska Air Group, significant effort is being invested in positioning the Hawaiian Airlines brand within the larger portfolio. [edit]
