Barnes's career is defined by winning at every level. He led Ames High School to 53 consecutive wins and back-to-back state titles, earning national player of the year honors. At North Carolina he was ACC Rookie of the Year. In the NBA, he became the first rookie to start for a championship team since Magic Johnson, helping the Warriors win the 2015 title. His Olympic gold medal in 2016 completed a rare high school-college-NBA-Olympic sweep. Over 14 seasons he has appeared in 1,070 games, a testament to his durability. He is a finalist for the Social Justice Champion Award and serves on the NBA Foundation board.

AwardsBarnes has won an NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors, an Olympic gold medal with Team USA, and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In high school, he earned the Morgan Wootten Award and USA Today National Player of the Year honors. He was ACC Rookie of the Year in college and MVP of the McDonald's All-American Game, Nike Hoop Summit, and Jordan Brand Classic.
